The Middle School Science position at Valley Life Charter School (VLCS) is a full-time position with hours from 7:45 - 4:00 PM, with some evenings required

Key Responsibilities

 

Core duties include:  Next Generation Science Standards (CA NGSS), typically using an Integrated Learning Progression model where Earth, Life, and Physical sciences are blended with engineering across middle grades. Lessons should be inquiry-based, hands-on, and connect to real-world phenomena to drive engagement

Instructional Leadership: Setting standards for student achievement, advancing learning practices, and monitoring student academic achievement.

 

Assessment and Support: Overseeing student assessment and evaluation, and supporting the development of a network of student support systems.

Integrated science in grades K-12 and all science in grades K-8.

Middle School Teachers. It is easier to obtain and covers all middle school science topics.

Full Single Subject (Science)

Specialized subjects (Biology, Chemistry, Physics, or Geosciences) plus General Science.

High School Teachers who may also want to teach middle school.

Salary Transparency (SB 1162) Placement on the salary schedule is based on verified years of prior teaching experience and units of post-baccalaureate college coursework. https://www.vlcs.me/careers

Compensation and Working Conditions  

The starting salary ranges from $54,189.00 - $81,009.05 per year, depending on experience, with VLCS giving up to 8 years of service credit. Full-time employees receive health, sick, and pension benefits. The work schedule includes 175 instructional days plus 3 staff development days. Working conditions include regular requirements to stand, walk, lift, and carry objects up to 50 lbs., and a willingness to work a longer than traditional workday. Occasional evening, weekend work, travel, and exposure to blood/bodily fluids and unruly children may occur. The position reports directly to the Principal, designee, or other appropriate administrator.
