The School Psychologist Intern  position at Valley Life Charter School (VLCS) is a part-time position of 10 to 30  hours between the hours of  7:45 AM and 4:00 PM, and is NOT paid

VLCS's mission is to provide a rigorous educational program that emphasizes academics, leadership, and visual and performing arts (VAPA). The instructional philosophy focuses on creating an environment where students are well-mannered leaders with exceptional listening skills, and the school commits to educating the whole person by including social skills and character development alongside academics and arts training.1

 

 A school psychologist intern is a graduate student in the final stage of their training, working under the direct supervision of a credentialed school psychologist. Their role is to bridge the gap between academic theory and professional practice by delivering a comprehensive range of psychological services within a school setting.

In California, interns typically complete at least 1,200 hours of fieldwork to earn their Pupil Personnel Services (PPS) Credential.

The responsibilities of an intern are designed to mirror those of a full-time school psychologist, though they are performed with closer oversight.

To ensure a well-rounded experience, professional guidelines (such as those from NASP and the CTC) often place specific parameters on the intern's workload:

Typically, no more than 40% of time should be spent on a single task (like just doing testing).

Interns must not "supplant" or replace a credentialed psychologist; they are there for training.

Salary Transparency (SB 1162) This is a non-paid intern position

Working conditions include regular requirements to stand, walk, lift, and carry objects up to 50 lbs., and a willingness to work a longer than traditional workday. Occasional evening, weekend work, travel, and exposure to blood/bodily fluids and unruly children may occur. The position reports directly to the Principal, designee, or other appropriate administrator.
